Kiln-Dried Hardwoods
We dry all of our lumber using large
capacity, state-of-the-art, computerized kilns to a maximum MC (moisture content) of 6% and then continue monitoring the MC throughout the production process. If at any time during the construction process, the wood’s moisture content rises above our strict limits, then it is either placed back in the kiln or it is scrapped.

Solid Cedar Drawers
You can learn a lot about a piece of furniture by looking at the
construction of its drawers. ANTIGUA uses dovetailed joints to fuse its Spanish cedar boxes while employing wood on wood glides for the ultimate in drawer craftsmanship.

Solid Hardwood Construction
Antigua is proud to employ solid hardwood construction on all of our furniture. Rather than hiding cheap MDF or particle board with a grandiose looking veneer, we believe that true beauty must go to the core. That is why we begin our furniture making process by selecting only the finest hardwoods. By using solid wood, we are able to employ old-fashioned mortise & tenon joinery, floating panels and floating tops to create the ultimate in hand-crafted heirloom furniture.
Precision Machining
While the art and soul of our furniture may lie in hand-crafted carving, planing and finishing, we very pragmatically begin the entire manufacturing process by precision machining each component, piece by piece. This allows us to offer the best of both worlds: extremely tight tolerances in all our case goods and the character that can only be gained through a hand-crafted assembly and finish.
Hand-wrought Ironwork
Each piece of hardware attached to our furniture is unique in its own right. Hand-wrought & handforged in our small ironsmith’s shop or taller de heirro, every pull, knob and latch is created first by heating raw iron, then hammering it into shape on an anvil and finally twisting it into a finished piece of hardware. The slight variation evident in each piece of Antigua hardware is a testament to our artisanal production. Our hand -forged iron table tops, headboards and bases go through the exact same labor-intensive processes as our hardware- just on a much larger scale. The weight and substantiality of these pieces testify to the quality with which they have been produced.
